Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are both in their late work, by which point Kandinsky was building pictures out of nothing but shape and interval. Edvard Munch is at the other end of a long life, with The Wave from 1931 and a return to the girls on the bridge he had been painting since the 1900s.
Then Kawase Hasui’s view of the Oirase gorge in autumn, from 1933, which shares nothing with any of them except the years. That is the point of filing by decade.
